Dateline: August 2011 - Glen Iris, Australia

Glen IrisSalutations to one and all from Coathanger House; nestled in the exclusive graceful gated community of Glen Iris. Where the days are crisp but reassuring and the boulevards are sheltered by majestic peppercorn trees; filtering the winter sun and spraying a sparkling silver necklace of light across the razor wire.

When last we spoke, I had just completed my rather long service leave in Tuvalu and was heading home 'avec chapeau' after dear Will and Kate's London wedding.

Now - well and truly back in the Coathanger corporate saddle - it's long lunches and office redecoration as Ross continues with his 39th Anniversary Tour and work begins on a new album.

 39th Anniversary Tour

As Coathanger celebrates thirty nine intermittent years of Ross being in show business, Tour39 gains momentum! Already there have been shows in Euroa (with the ever Paul Wookey); at the Backroad Music Festival in Sunbury; and in May, the Albert Park Yacht Club.

Then, as of last Friday, Ross and the Glen Combo were part of Aztec' Music's Rock of Ages 4 at the Palms at Crown in Melbourne along with Glen Shorrock, Spectrum, The Master's Apprentices, Wendy Saddington and Prodigy. Needless to say, a splendid time was had long into the night. Many thanks to Aztec and especially to Ted Lethborg for accommodating the Combo entourage. Coathanger salutes you Uncle Ted!

Glen Combo

On the night, Glen Combo's sometimes accordian/sax guest Combette, photographer Cathy Middleton, not only joined the guys on stage but she also took some great shots.

But now - moving forward - we are most pleased to announce the
'Alpine-Federation' leg of T39 . . .

Ross Ryan Glen Combo Tour Dates - ACT & Arby's Place

For some reason we get a lot of email from the ACT. Maybe it's because Ross did mostly campus work early in his career and a lot of those students entered politics.

Anyway, we're thrilled to report that by popular demand, Ross Ryan Glen Combo are appearing at the Southern Cross Club in Tuggeranong on August 13. And as a warm up - the night before they're at Arby's Place in Tawonga - a charming snowfield town just down the road from Mt Beauty.

My Name Means Horse - now back in stock

After being unavailable for most of 2011 - Aztec Music has advised us that the second imprint of their fabulous deluxe remastered CD re-release of Ross's classic 'My Name Means Horse' album - is now re-available.

Congratulations to Lesley Daniels and Michelle Keele - winners of our 'Hosre Competition' - whereby we invited our readers to find errors in the packaging of the original Aztec release (See: How many mistakes can you find? ).

Hosre CompetitionAdmittedly, we did encourage grammatical nit-picking and pedantry, but between them, Lesley and Michelle came up with 77 "mistakes" and we thank them for their editorial contribution to this historic edition.

It's to Aztec's credit (suddenly we're back to praising Ted Lethborg) that, in good humour, they took the competition seriously and corrected each error. In Ted's defense, many of these mistakes were faithfully reproduced from the original LP artwork and rightly remain so.

So folks, there you have it.

I'm pleased to report that Coathanger's touring division seems to be making encouraging Tour39 inroads across Australia. Even Queensland is returning our calls. Hence we're encouraged.

And let us not forget that Ross is back in the studio and a new album is afoot! More info about that next time.

Meanwhile, teak samples and fabric swatches will be arriving at any minute!

Hope you're all well.

Cheers,
