Coathanger unveils 'Queensland' video

Palm Cove, Queensland

"First there was Baz's 'Australia'. Now there's Ross's "Queensland'." (Cove Catering)

Coathanger Video Laboratories (CVL) has been presented with an honourary special achievement award at the recent inaugural Palm d'Cove Film Festival (run in conjunction with the better known 'Cairns Film Festival').

At the festival's opening night, CVL previewed the new Ross Ryan video, 'Queensland' to an audience of enthusiastic Palm Cove small business owners and their employees. Afterwards, CVL representative Ms Connie Person accepted the award from local Lions Club President, Kev Slazenger.

Mr Slazenger thanked CVL for bringing the 'Queensland' project to Palm Cove and for the company's indirect investment in the fledgling local film industry, adding, "there's not a restaurant nor bar nor recreational service in this town that doesn't owe Coathager a huge debt of gratitude".

Ironically, The Queensland Tourism & Marketing Society (QTMS) - who bankrolled the project as part of the state's 150th Independence celebrations - is now facing government charges of securities and trading fraud and was subsequently unrepresented at the festival.

QTMS's problems also meant that CVL lost its backing for the project and the 'Queensland' clip was, the following weekend, shot and edited in Glen Iris - but not before leaving behind an important legacy and paper trail in the far north.
