2012 sees singer-songwriter Ross Ryan and his band Glen Combo beginning an extensive Australian tour to celebrate 39 intermittent years as one of Australia's most celebrated recording and performing artists. It was in 1972, whilst working in Perth as an audio engineer, that a scruffy hirsute Ryan accidently stumbled into show business when he was a last minute choice for the local support spot to music legend Roy Orbison. His fumbling, funny, self-effacing and frankly Within a mere 12 months he had signed with EMI and his debut album, 'A Poem You Can Keep' (soon to be re-released on CD through Aztec Music), achieved gold record status and was selected by the Federation of Australian Radio Stations as Record of the Year. Ross also won the trophy for Best New Talent. Then things started to pick up. Ross's second album, 'My Name Means Horse', contained the gigantic hit single 'I Am Pegasus'; a recording that is, to this day, a perennial Gold radio favourite. The song was deemed a National Anthem by ABC TV's 2003 series 'Love Is In The Air', complete with news footage of Ross's gold record presentation by then Prime Minister Gough Whitlam. He also toured overseas and represented Australia at the Spokane World Fair. Hell, the guy even won a King of Pop award! Over the years Ross has performed extensively both as a headliner and supporting act; including tours with Van Morrison, Roberta Flack, Dr Hook and most recently Carole King. He has also had material recorded by acts as diverse as John Farnham and Slim Dusty. In addition to his performing career, there have been many side-projects. Under the umbrella of 'Coathanger Productions' he has worked in record production, radio, television, theatre, stand-up comedy, computer design and even appeared twice on Mr Squiggle! As for recordings, Ross has continued writing and releasing material - the albums 'One Person Queue' (2003) and 'The Difficult Third Compilation' (2009) being the most recent. A new CD of original material is due out later this year.
